No, a bear canister would be fine. ;-)

According to press reports if confirmed, the attack would be the 15th

Here kitty kitty.

I really don't think this is something to be worried about compared to

Cars kill. Don't turn your back on them. That is when they sneak up and
pounce.

I think these things really feed to primal type fears, even though in
reality wild animal attacks are extremely rare. Not even on my own personal
radar. Not worth the worry. Your mileage may vary. Professional idiot on a
closed course. Do not attempt this at home. Call your doctor if you
experience any unusual symptoms, like, oh, I don't know, something unusual.
No animals were harmed by my keyboard (that you or I know of).

And weighs even more if you can't hit your target. A knife only becomes
handy if you are already under attack, and requires the need to get very
close, close enough to be severely injured yourself. Bad idea. Bear spray
is much lighter and easier to use, and may possibly train the animal, bear
or otherwise, to avoid humans in the future because we are too damn spicy
(this idea may not work in areas of the American SW).

Just sayin.

There's a lot of that going around. I'm looking into getting a shot to
hopefully prevent catching it.
