Previous post recalls two more benefits of night hiking!  Getting lots of time in the afternoon to read (i.e., a lightweight kindle) in addition to sleeping and eating, and meeting more people on the trail as they pass and stop to chat while you are stationary (and whom you'll often pass overnight and see again the next day). 

Yes, now I remember why more than 2-3 hours sleep during the afternoon is so difficult:  you have to keep moving your position to stay in the shade! But you just have to practice good shade management, there is almost always something to use, even when it doesn't seem like there would be.
