Abbey lives on in his books which will be read long after lesser mortals are forgotten. IN my opinion, most of his books could have used a better editor. But they remain among the best outdoor books of recent decades.

I was at a meeting of the Friends of Bigelow in what was the Maine coast home of Henry Beston, Author of "the Outermost House," which tells of a year spent in a camp on Cape Cod. Henry wrote a hundred books during his lifetime. Only one remains widely read today. "The Outermost House" has been in print for 70 years and will remain so for the forseeable future.

Abbey wrote many books. One, Desert Solitaire, should and will live as long or longer.
