Erin,

For your historical edification, Stephen Pern, a British journalist,
thru-hiked the (pre-existent) CDT in the 1980's and described his
impressions in a book.  I think the title was The Great Divide.  As I
recall, he met two sisters who were thru-riding the trail on horseback.  You
might look it up next fall when you are coming down off your thru-ride.
