In '99 (similar snow year) we didn't send them home until Leadore. YMMV

Subject: [Cdt-l] How far to carry an Ice Axe
On my PCT hike in 2005, I made the mistake of sending my ice axe home too early. It was a very heavy snow year and I should have carried it all the way to South Lake Tahoe. I'm trying to avoid the same situation on my southbound CDT hike. Assuming that I actually need/use the ice axe in GNP, is it likely that I'll need it between East Glacier and Lincoln?
