Yogi;
Thanks so much, I was thinking Denver but wanted to “double check” with the experts. You are absolutely correct, when Thru-Hiking the AT last year I could tell exactly where I would have been +/- 100 miles on most any given day (after I got my trail legs that is), this is much more of a challenge. I think I’ll plan for Denver and just make it work.

Thanks for everyone’s quick and helpful reply

Kirk -

That question is easily answered for the Appalachian Trail and Pacific Crest Trail, but not so easily answered for the Continental Divide Trail.

New Mexico has MANY different routes which will affect your mileage. When you get to Colorado, you may (or may not) take the San Juan loop, depending upon the snow level. That will affect your mileage. Continuing in Colorado, there are opportunities to summit some of the 14,000 foot peaks. That will affect your mileage. And the list goes on.

I guess the broad answer to your question would be "somewhere in Colorado". So Denver would probably be the airport for you.

I am starting to plan my North Bound CDT hike next year and need to come off the week of June 28 – July 5 for my Mom’s 80th Birth Day bash. I believe I would have completed somewhere around 1,500 miles by this time and want to plan on a way to get back to the east coast for her party. Can anyone tell me approximately where 1,500 miles is on the CDT – what is the big town?

Thanks
