[pct-l] Permits

The distance between High Bridge (where the bus from Stehekin stops) and
Hwy 20 is less than 20 miles, so you should be able to hike through the
North Cascades National Park in one day. Backcountry permits are only
required for those who stay overnight within the park's boundaries. See
<http://www.nps.gov/noca/planyourvisit/permits.htm> for more information.

You will still need a permit to enter Canada (although there are plenty
of hikers who have ignored that requirement). If you are interested in
trail conditions from last year, you can read my trip report on the last
section between Rainy Pass and the border at:
<http://griffinte.home.comcast.net/pct2006/index.html>

Be aware that the Agnes Creek footbridge is out, which is on the PCT
just south of High Bridge.
<http://www.nps.gov/noca/parknews/agnes-creek-bridge-destroyed-by-tree.htm>
According to the press release, a temporary crossing is supposed to be
in place by July 1st, but you'd better call the park first to see if
they are on schedule.

Hey thanks to everyone who responded to my question. I don't know sounds
like too much trouble to me, I think I'll just go without a permit. Just
kidding. Oh man, sorry I couldn't help myself on that one. LOL. Whew,
anyway good to know. I had almost forgotten that there is still one more
national Park to go. I can feel the excitement building already.
