[pct-l] Recharging I-Phone on trail

I went way overboard on weight, but recharging was really important to
me, and it was a system for three people.

I got the 6 volt brunton solar charger -
http://www.brunton.com/product.php?id=409

And the brunton battery charger AA/AAA http://www.brunton.com/product.php?id=614

(note that the brunton products cost half as much when you don't buy
them from their website)

The 6 bolt charger can indeed charge 4 AA batteries even on a cloudy
day in three hours. But I haven't been able to get the battery charger
to charge my iPhone or IPod touch. I think the charger is the
incorrect voltage. It advertised as charging ipods, but I think they
meant the nanos.

So I'm going to keep looking for an adaptor. I was excited about the
system having a lot of flexibility, such as bringing extra precharged
batteries, and that it could recharge my headlamp as well.

We had tried this one before-

And it was convenient to bring half a charge with you, but I'm not
convinced it ever charged from the sun at all.

I've seen pictures of people just attaching the Solio to their backpack or something to charge and that won't work. The angle to the sun will just change so much so often that you'll never get it charged while you're on the go. Solio is great don't get me wrong but unless you start out with it fully charged you won't be able to top it up or charge it while you hike.
