The pack was in KM at just that time last year, ie. first week in June.
Some of us were a week or two ahead, and some a week or so behind, but
anywhere from Walker Pass to Army Pass would be a good starting place. I
had missed a section of SoCal due to a wedding, but reconnected with my
friends at Lone Pine, and went in the first week of June, at Horseshoe
Meadow and on up, then came back in the fall and finished the desert
sections. It was the only time I was really alone on trail, and the deserts
were beautiful. You could live on the pine nuts and desert fruit. But
water was an issue. Some springs and creeks were still running, but nowhere
near as much as in the spring. And some caches were not full. If you plan
to carry a bit more water, it should be fine, and kind of fun after
traveling with the pack for so long. It really dries out the WA rain that
has seeped into everything too.

Good plan,

Shroomer
